Hurlingham Club, Fulham, London

The Hurlingham Club in Fulham is one of London’s best-known private members’ clubs, combining its traditional English character and heritage with modern facilities for its members. As part of its ongoing programme of improvements, an acoustic solution was required to address excessive reverberation within one of the club’s hallways.

The Challenge:

The hallway suffered from reverberation that affected the acoustic environment, but any treatment also needed to respect the architectural character of the space. In particular, the original ornate cornice was an important feature that needed to remain visible and undisturbed.

The Solution:

MCW Acoustic Spray Plaster was selected to provide an acoustically absorptive ceiling finish while maintaining a clean, seamless appearance.
The installation was carefully detailed around a series of feature downlights, with a shadow gap incorporated around the ceiling perimeter. This allowed the acoustic treatment to be introduced without concealing or interfering with the existing decorative cornice.

The Result:

The completed installation provided an unobtrusive acoustic treatment designed to control reverberation while remaining sympathetic to the building’s traditional interior. The smooth spray-plaster finish allowed the acoustic solution to form part of the architecture rather than appearing as an added acoustic product.
